Dick Oliver of Villa Ridge, Pulaski County, aged 16 years, accidentally shot himself, and was buried 2 Jan 1888. Widow Sarah Cook died in Elizabethtown during an abortion performed by her pastor, the Rev. Dr. G.W. Stevens. John T. Braden, of Sparta, was thrown by a runaway team and died. (See also 21 Jan 1888, issue.) Gabriel Back, son of Samuel Back of Mound City, Pulaski County, fell through the ice while skating and drowned. Mary Lockard Swafford, wife of James H. Swafford, died 29 Dec 1887, in Pomona Ridge of double pneumonia, aged 40 years. She left a husband and seven children, the youngest being 6.

Wiley Lippard died Friday (13 Jan 1888?) in Anna of apoplexy, aged 50 years. Miss Brim, an “outcast,” died at the house of ill repute near the depot in Jonesboro last Sunday (15 Jan 1888), and buried by the county in Jonesboro Cemetery on Monday (16 Jan 1888).
28 Jan 1888 Mother of Tom Henley of Cobden died in Shelbyville, Tennessee, 14 Jan 1888 William Gunn was accidentally shot by Charley Biggs while hunting Sunday (22 Jan 1888) in Cobden, And was buried in Biggs burying ground Frank Brown, son of M.V. Brown of five miles southeast of Anna, died in San Bernardino, California, of pneumonia, aged 28 years, and was buried in San Bernardino. “Old Nigger Billy” died in Hodges Park, claimed to be 104 years. “He was about the only gentleman of color that ever stopped long in Jonesboro.”
4 Feb 1888 F.A. Boyt, coroner of Johnson County, was killed or committed suicide. A young man died in Springville at George Gordon’s of typhoid pneumonia. Amey Miller, wife of the Rev. E. Miller, died 15 Jan 1888, in Sedgewickville, Missouri, of consumption. She was born 28 Nov 1848, in Alexander County, Illinois, daughter of Daniel and Catharine Mowery. She left a husband and five children. Infant child of the Rev. D. Faris died Saturday (28 Jan 1888) in Anna, aged 1 week. G.W. Hall died at his residence on Hall’s Hill west of Jonesboro Wednesday (1 Feb 1888) aged about 76 years, and was buried in Jonesboro Cemetery. F. Mize, of near Jonesboro, died of pneumonia, and was buried Thursday (2 Feb 1888).
11 Feb 1888 Mrs. Frank Noel, of Makanda, died of erysipelas and tonsillitis. Clarence A. Smith, son of G.W. and Dora C. Smith, died of pneumonia, and was buried in Evergreen (Makanda) Cemetery. Uncle Johnny Spence was buried in Evergreen (Makanda) Cemetery this week. Hon. John M. Cochran, born 29 Jan 1810, near Princeton, Kentucky, died 24 Jan 1888, in Ava, Jackson County, Illinois, from injuries from a fall on the ice. He came to Illinois with his father when a small boy, moved to St. Louis, Missouri, returned to Union County. He was elected to the legislature three times and took the census in Union County in 1850. His wife died 23 years ago. He left three children, Dr. W.J. Cochran, L.B. Cochran, and Mrs. Ollie Yocum of Carbondale, Jackson County. Elizabeth “Grandma” Dillow died 8 Feb 1888, of lung trouble, and was buried in St. John’s Cemetery. She was born in Northeast Tennessee near Blue Ridge in 1818, the daughter of John and ____ (Meisenheimer) Light. John Light was a soldier in the War of 1812 and related some near escapes of his life. She married Charles Dillow, a wagon maker. She left two children, L.A. Dillow and Mrs. D.C. Hurst, three sisters and one brother. Three sisters and two brothers preceded her in death. (See also 18 Feb 1888, issue.) Susanna Hileman, daughter of John Miller, died 7 Feb 1888, at the residence of her son, Jacob M. Hileman, on the old Peter Hileman homestead, five miles south of Jonesboro, aged 87 years. She was born in Cabarrus County, North Carolina, 19 Feb18(00). She moved from North Carolina to Illinois with her parents in 1819 and married Peter Hileman in 1820. She had 12 children. Three children and her husband preceded her in death. Three sons were in the Civil War; one, Peter F. Hileman, died in 1863. She left four sons, John Hileman, Jacob M. Hileman, William R. Hileman, and Samuel Hileman; and one brother, Solomon Miller. Marks died Tuesday (14 Feb 1888) at his home in St. Louis, Missouri, and was buried in Anna Cemetery. He left a widow, Annie Marks, the daughter of C. Kirkpatrick of Anna.

Charles Bellma of Montrose, Missouri, was killed by a Missouri Pacific train Tuesday last week (21 Feb 1888) in Sedalia. Mrs. J.R. Hogg died 24 Feb 1888, of pneumonia, aged about 45 years, and was buried in Cedar Grove Cemetery.
10 Mar 1888 John R. Irvin, father of Hon. A.H. Irvin postmaster in Cairo, Alexander County, was buried in Jonesboro Cemetery 21 years ago or more, and disinterred and taken to Kansas by relatives. Cyrus A. Miles died 1 Jan 1888, in New Orleans, and buried in Cobden Cemetery last Friday (2 Mar 1888?). Moses Goodman died at his residence Saturday (3 Mar 1888) of paralytic stroke and erysipelas, aged 81 years, 6 months, 5 days, and was buried in Jonesboro Cemetery. He was born in North Carolina, and resided in Illinois over 50 years. He moved from Anna to his farm 15 years ago. He left five children: Dr. M.M. Goodman of Jonesboro, D.W. Goodman and Charles H. Goodman of Anna, Dr. T.H. Goodman of Cobden, and Mrs. Dr. W.H. Damon of Mt. Vernon, Jefferson County.

Infant child of Frank Ferguson of Springville died of whooping cough and measles. “Grandma” Susanna Poole died 22 Mar 1888, of paralytic stroke or heart disease. She was born 14 Feb 1817, in Rowan County, North Carolina. She married John Poole and moved to Illinois when 21. She had 76 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. She left four brothers, one sister, five sons (Jacob H. Poole, George W. Poole, Edward Poole, John Poole, and A.W. Poole, the last two of Arkansas), and three daughters (Mrs. L.A. Dillow, Mrs. Alfred Lingle and Mrs. Peter Dillow). She was a member of the German Reformed Church. W.H. Stephens of Wetaug, Pulaski County, railroad brakeman, was killed Saturday (24 Mar 1888) on the Illinois Central Railroad between Dongola and Wetaug. He left a family. Rebecca Gartner, wife of Stuart G. Gartner of Wheatland, died 19 Mar 1888, of typhoid fever, and was buried in Lindsey Cemetery. She left a husband and five children.

Hunsaker, in Anna, aged 65 years, 7 months, 2 days, and was buried in Williams Cemetery, five miles east of Anna. Christina Ury, widow of Martin Ury, died 23 Aug 1888, aged 74 years, 4 months, 10 days. She was born near Concord, North Carolina, 13 Apr 1814, and came to Union County with her parents, Michael and Susanna Craver on 25 Dec 1827. She married Martin Ury on 18 Oct 1838, and became a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church 50 years ago. She had one daughter who died in infancy and two sons, the oldest lives in California and the youngest, Jefferson L. Ury lives in Jonesboro. Her funeral was preached at St. John’s Church 28 Oct 1888 (See also 27 Oct 1888, issue).

6 Oct 1888: Henry Meisenheimer died five miles east of Dongola, aged 69 years, 2 months, 18 days. He was born in Union County and married twice. He left one son, a number of grandchildren, one brother, and three sisters. Infant son of Philip S. Lingle died in Springville. Mathias Mair died of bilious intermittent fever and blood poisoning. He came to America when a boy with his parents. He married in Missouri. He left a wife, one son and two daughters, all grown.
13 Oct 1888: George Graves died Sunday (7 Oct 1888) after being thrown from a wagon on Saturday a few miles from Jonesboro when going home drunk. Robert Rice died 11 Oct 1888, in Jonesboro, aged 55 years, 11 months, 18 days, and was buried in Jonesboro Cemetery. He was born near Bresian, Germany, and learned the butcher’s trade from his father. He spent three years in the Prussian Army, went to Russia, and came to America in 1859 and located in Cape Girardeau. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1860 and was honorably discharged in 1864, having lost his hearing. He returned to Germany for five months and then returned to Cape Girardeau. He married in 1869 and moved to Dongola. He was Catholic. He left a widow, two sons, and one daughter. (See also 20 Oct 1888, issue.) Mrs. Hester E. Jones, wife of W.O. Jones of Cobden, died 6 Oct 1888, at the residence of her father, six miles east of Elkville, of malarial fever, and was buried in Osage Cemetery, one mile from her parents’ home. Jimmie Copeland, son of William Copeland, died 6 Oct 1888, aged 1 year.
20 Oct 1888: Dr. J.G. Grambery died 12 Oct 1888, of throat cancer at his residence one mile east of Cobden, aged over 50 years, and was buried in Cobden Cemetery. He served as a surgeon in the army in Holland. He left a wife and two little daughters. Child of Jack Dale Jr. died 13 Oct 1888, aged 2 years. Albert M. Smith’s monument was erected in Lyerle Cemetery on Hutchinson’s Creek last Wednesday (17 Oct 1888) by J.L. Ury.
27 Oct 1888: Lillie A. Vancil, daughter of Lewis and Piety Vancil of Cobden, died 19 Oct 1888, of consumption, aged 17 years, 9 months, 7 days. Grace Vancil, daughter of Lewis and Piety Vancil of Cobden, died 22 Oct 1888, of consumption, aged 16 years, 3 months, 3 days. The death is also recorded as 21 Oct 1888. Uncle John D. Fly died Tuesday (23 Oct 1888) of Bright’s disease at his residence four miles southeast of Makanda, aged 76 years. His father died at age 84. He came to Union County from Wayne County in 1844. He left a wife of 57 years, two sons (one was Marcus S. Fly), one daughter, and four brothers. Grandma Rimer died 21 Oct 1888. She was born 25 Nov 1808, in Rowan County, North Carolina, and married Henry Heilig at aged 14. She had several children, four of whom survived her, Clarissa C. widow of Moses A. Goodman, Mrs. Adam Eddleman, M.N. Heilig, and Crawford Heilig. She married 2nd Jacob Rimer. They had one child, a daughter who died in infancy. In 1845 they moved to Mississippi and in 1848 to Illinois. She was a Lutheran. Jefferson Adams, son of Mack Adams, died 24 Oct 1888, aged 8-10 years. Mrs. Angeline Whitlock, mother of George T. and Edward W. Whitlock, died in Cairo, Alexander County, and was buried in Jonesboro Cemetery last Thursday (18 Oct 1888?)
3 Nov 1888: Mrs. Minnie nee Cox Little, wife of James A. Little, daughter of Mrs. Spann of Alto Pass, died 25 Oct 1888, in Dongola, aged 24 years, 4 months, 11 days, and was buried in Cobden Cemetery. She married 10 months ago. She left a daughter born a few days ago. (See also 10 Nov 1888, issue.) Mrs. Rosa Schlitter died 30 Oct 1888, in Cobden, aged 55 years, 8 months, 8 days, and was buried in the Catholic cemetery in Cobden.
10 Nov 1888: Thomas Hagler, second son of P.M. Hagler, drowned Friday (9 Nov 1888) crossing the Muddy River, aged 19 years, and was buried in Lamer burying ground. A “colored child” died in a log house fire in Idlewood, Alexander County, near Warriner’s Mill, aged 18 months. W.M. Chester died Wednesday (7 Nov 1888) at his residence west of Jonesboro of hemorrhage of the lungs, aged about 54 years, and was buried in Jonesboro Cemetery. He was born in Union County.
17 Nov 1888: Dr. W.C. Dunning, of Cairo, Alexander County, died Friday last week (9 Nov 1888) in Cairo. John Burgenburger, of Evansville died of wounds. Catharine Metz, wife of Joseph Metz, died 13 Nov 1888, at her residence one mile southeast of Cobden, aged 56 years, and was buried in the Catholic cemetery. Uncle Johnny Thornton died last Saturday (10 Nov 1888) at the residence of the late Alex Chapman, quite old, and was buried in Limestone Cemetery.
24 Nov 1888: Mrs. Polly Lee died Wednesday last week in Centralia, aged 79 years. She came down the Alleghaney and Ohio rivers to Shawneetown in 1817, and remained there until 1822. Charles Laswell, of Odin, committed suicide Wednesday. John Conger Townsend died 15 Nov 1888, near Cobden, aged 13 years, 2 months, 26 days. He was born 19 Aug 1875.
1 Dec 1888: George W. Bridenbecker, of Meridian Township, Clinton County, shot and killed his wife and their infant child in the arms of his sister-in-law on 10 Nov 1888. Infant daughter of T.A. Safriet died 23 Nov 1888, aged 2 months. Infant daughter of Jasper Carlock died 24 Nov 1888, aged 13 months. Mrs. Jacob Corzine died 28 Nov 1888, aged 60 years.
8 Dec 1888: Lucy Harrison Fitch died 6 Dec 1888, at the residence of her son James N. Fitch, aged 62 years, 4 months, 27 days. She was born in Randolph, P___ County, Ohio, 5 Jul 1826. She married Anson Fitch on 19 May 1847. Two children survive, James N. Fitch born 24 Feb 1848, in Tarleton, Ohio, and George H. Fitch born 3 Feb 1850, in Tarleton, Ohio. Anson died in Nevada City in 1857 after which she moved to Carbondale, Jackson. Calvin Hinsley died Friday last week (30 Nov 1888) at his residence two miles west of Jonesboro. He left a small family. Mary Bean, widow of Thomas Bean, died 13 Nov 1888, at the residence of her son, G.W. Bean, in Preston Precinct, aged 57 years, and was buried in Jonesboro Cemetery.
15 Dec 1888: Mrs. Charlotte Ates died 10 Dec 1888, in Anna, aged 31 years, and was buried in Jonesboro Cemetery. Mrs. Phoebe Hills died 23 Dec 1888, on the train 50 miles from Los Angeles, California, of apoplexy, aged 70 years. She was formerly the matronette at Southern Illinois Insane Asylum in Anna. She was going to visit her daughter, Mrs. James Colby. 19 Jan 1889: Charles Aspar, a Swiss from Moro, Macon County, was found dead in Wood River a few days ago. Benjamin Vandree was killed near Altament by a falling limb while coon hunting. John W. Davis, son of David Davis deceased, died Sunday (13 Jan 1889) at his residence six miles southeast of Anna of consumption, aged about 35 years, and was buried in Campground Cemetery. His wife died two years ago of consumption. He left an aged mother, one daughter and a large family of brothers and sisters. Mrs. Nova Clem, daughter of H.A. Jones of Friendship, died Monday (14 Jan 1889) at her parents’ residence, and was buried in Big Creek Cemetery. She married a little over a year ago. She left a 2-week-old baby. Henry Trees, son of Maston Trees, died. Elizabeth Loeb died 28 Dec 1888, near Cobden, aged 63 years, 1 months, 21 days, and was buried in the Evangelical Association (Ebenezer) cemetery three and a half miles south of Jonesboro. She was born in Namiely, near Cablenz, Germany, and married in 1855 Caspar Loeb, deceased. They had five children, of whom three survived her. She came to America and lived in Covington, Kentucky, for three years before coming to Union County. She was Catholic, but united with the Evangelical Association of Jonesboro. Mrs. Bolte died Saturday (19 Jan 1889) of injuries received on railroad track. Hannah Miranda Hanna died 12 Jan 1889, at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. Jesse Ware in Jonesboro. She was born 17 May 1808, in Madison County, New York, and moved with her parents to Switzerland County, Indiana, about 1814. At age 19 she moved to Cincinnati, Ohio, and married Benjamin F. Guild of Rhode Island, who died 14 months after their marriage. She returned to Indiana where her first child died in infancy. She moved to Cincinnati, Ohio, and married William Hanna, and then moved to Louisville, Kentucky. In 1836 they moved to Union County and settled two miles from Preston on Mississippi River. He died in 1843 and left a 5-year-old daughter. In 1853 she sold the farm and moved to Jonesboro. She was a Presbyterian. She left one daughter and three grandchildren. McGinnis of Springville, died 3 Feb 1889, of congestive chills, aged 6 years, 10 months, 3 days. 16 Feb 1889: Daughter of Sam Duvall died of burns Friday (15 Feb 1889). John Rendleman, of Anna, died 10 Feb 1889, aged 62 years, 2 months, 21 days, and was buried in Evergreen Cemetery. He was born two miles northwest of Jonesboro 19 Nov 1826, and married in April 1849 Mary Kimmel. They had two sons and five daughters. She died February 1877 and one son died in youth. He married August 1879 Mrs. Elizabeth Hess Craver. In 1852 he moved to a log cabin two miles east of Makanda. He was a Mason and a member of Stonefort Baptist Church. J.B. Roberts was his son-in-law. In 1870 she moved to Waterville, Minnesota, with her parents. She married D.H. Woodworth on 8 Jun 1873, and in 1878 moved to Cairo, Alexander County. She left a father, mother, two brothers, a husband, and five children. Mrs. Book of Preston died 30 Jan 1889, of consumption. J.M.C. Cavaness of Cobden died Monday (18 Feb 1889). She married J. Henry Abbott and moved to Makanda eight years ago. She was a Baptist. She left a husband, four children, a mother, three brothers, and four sisters. P. Bird died at his residence one and a half miles north of Cobden of bronchial trouble. John Kearney died 26 Feb 1889, of consumption, at his residence in Jonesboro, aged 49 years, and was buried in Jonesboro Cemetery. He was born in Ireland and was a Catholic. 9 Mar 1889: Mrs. Charles Crowell, daughter of John K. Tripp, died Friday (8 Mar 1889) at her residence west of Jonesboro of consumption. Crawford Trees died in Dallas County, Texas. He was born in Union County and went to Texas when a boy. He and Anna Kimmel, also born in Union County, and a sister of George W. Kimmel, were the first couple married in Dallas County. He left a wife, six sons and four daughters. Infant son of W.J. Ford died 1 Mar 1889, and was buried in Dongola I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Mrs. George Little, formerly of Dongola, died in Plumb Creek, Nebraska, last week. She left a husband. 16 Mar 1889: R.W. Townsend died in Washington, D.C., and was buried in Shawneetown, Gallatin County. John Morton died 6 Mar 1889, at his residence in Alto Pass, and was buried in Dutch Ridge Cemetery. He was a member of G.A.R. Mary Hess Rendleman, widow of Henry Rendleman, died 12 Mar 1889, at the residence of her son-in-law, S.H. Spann, aged 78 years, 7 months, 17 days, and was buried in Cobden Cemetery. She was born 23 Aug 1810, in Rowan County, North Carolina, and came to Union County in 1818 with her parents. She married Henry Rendleman on 15 Feb 1829. He died 16 Mar 1874. They had 16 children, seven dying in infancy and seven sons and two daughters survived her. She left 41 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. She was a member of the German Reformed Church and then joined the Congregational Church. (See also 23 Mar 1889, issue.) Edward Willett died in New York a few weeks ago. He was born in Green County, New York, in 1837. In 1855 he moved to Cairo, Alexander County and published the Cairo Times. He married in August 1857 Izora Wilkinson, daughter of Will C. and Martha Wilkinson, and a sister of Mrs. L.G. Faxon. He was arrested by Gen. Grant in Cairo during the Civil War for disloyal sentiments expressed in letters published in a St. Louis newspaper. After the war he resided in Cobden. He moved to Kentucky, St. Louis, and then New York. He left one daughter, Mrs. Henry Aveling. Henry Oglesby died after being struck on the head by a plank by 15-year-old Carl Mitchell at a church meeting in Harrisburg, Saline County. Carrie Mesler, wife of W.P. She had 14 children, 11 of whom survived her, ages 27 to 57. Left 45 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. George Miller, cousin of Mrs. Robert Giles of Ashley, died Sunday after being thrown from a runaway horse in Tamaroa, aged 17 years. John Baillie, miner at Sunfield, was killed 25 Jun 1889, near DuQuoin by falling slate. Mary Marlow, who lived with Mr. Kline near Omega, was struck by lightning while taking clothes off a wire line, and died, aged 18 years. John W. Connor died 1 Jul 1889, aged 66 years. He was born in Union County and moved from near Jonesboro to Williamson County four years ago. He was a veteran of the Mexican War and a Baptist. He left a wife, four sons and two daughters. Susan C. Spence, wife of George Spence, died Friday (5 Jul 1889), and was buried in Anna Cemetery. She left a husband and five daughters. Cross was killed by lightning 28 Jun 1889, near Pinckneyville, Perry County. Her husband was killed by a falling tree a few years ago. William Wise and Robert Bedberry drowned 8 Jul 1889, in the river at Alton. Wise’s stepfather drowned the week previous. John F. Sivia died 8 Jul 1889, at his residence in Stokes Precinct, aged 64 years, 10 months, 23 days, And was buried in Campground Cemetery. He was born in Union County two miles from where he died. He was a Mexican War veteran in Capt. Hacker’s company. He married Elizabeth Stokes on 15 Apr 1847, and had four sons and seven daughters; six children survived him. In 1843 they moved to Union County. In 1851 she moved to Rhode Island and in 1854 to Pennsylvania. They moved back to Tennessee and to Union County in 1864. Jennie Row, daughter of Adam and Josephine Row of Makanda, died 12 Aug 1889, of acute dysentery. Polly Lyerle, daughter of Christian Miller, died 14 Aug 1889, and was buried in St. John’s Cemetery. She was born in 1818 or 1819, moved from Rowan County, North Carolina, and to Union County in 1816 with her parents. She married in 1839 Christopher Lyerle. She had nine children, five of whom survived her. All were married and living near homestead except Mrs. Arthur Brown of Willard’s Landing. She was a member St. John’s Church. Widow Robetna Kirkpatrick died 18 Aug 1889, aged 54 years, 9 months, 7 days. 31 Aug 1889 Maurice Downer, of Rockford, died Friday night in a fire, aged 70 years. He went to bed with a lit pipe. 7 Sep 1889 Infant of W.D. Hains died 28 Aug 1889, in Springville, and was buried in St. John’s Cemetery. Thomas Gunn died at his residence two miles north of Cobden of typhoid fever, aged 33 years, and was buried in Cobden Cemetery. He left a wife and three children. Mary J. Persefield, wife of John Persefield, died 31 Aug 1889, in Anna, aged 47 years, 26 days. Alvin B. Coleman died 1 Sep 1889, in Anna, aged 37 years, 2 months, 25 days, and was buried in Anna Cemetery. 14 Sep 1889 John Snyder, Thomas Tygett and Anderson Tygett (sons of Hugh Tygett), John Biggs (son-in-law of Hugh Tygett), and Isaac Miller “colored” died Monday (9 Sep 1889) on the John Snyder farm, a half mile east of Carbondale, Jackson County, in an explosion of a clover threshing engine. Henry Sanders died of paralysis of the brain, 82 years, “a really ripe old age,” and was buried last Sunday (8 Sep 1889) in Evergreen Cemetery, Makanda. Zella Hunsaker, daughter of Joseph Hunsaker of Cobden, died 5 Sep 1889, aged 3 years. George Smith was killed 18 Aug 1889, by Ohio & Missouri train in Carlyle. Sidney B. Her parents were Scotch and moved from Tennessee to Jonesboro in 1817. She married Matthew Pipkin, who died many years ago, leaving one son, Andrew J. Pipkin. She married James J. Provo, who died in 1863. Two daughters survive, Ellen and Isabelle. She was a Baptist. Salter, ex-warden of Alton Prison, died 9 Sep 1889, in Alton, Madison County. Elizabeth Salyer, wife of James Salyer, died 15 Sep 1889, at the residence of A.J. Salyer in Alto Pass. Elizabeth Ray, mother of I.C. Piersol, died Saturday (21 Sep 1889) at her residence in Anna, aged 82 years, and was buried in the Catholic cemetery. 5 Oct 1889 Mrs. S.E. Gallegly died 25 Sep 1889, of general debility at the residence of her son-in-law, Thomas Hogue, of Lick Creek, aged about 70 years. Pleasant, aged 55 years, and was buried in Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Johnson County. Daughter of Henry Dillow of Dongola died 7 Oct 1889, aged 2 years, 1 month, 9 days, and was buried in St. John’s Cemetery. George W. Adams died 6 Oct 1889, at his residence in Jonesboro of typhoid fever. He left a wife and seven children. Matthew J. Inscore died Tuesday (8 Oct 1889) in Anna. He was born 2 Feb 1817, in Springfield, Tennessee, and came to Union County with parents in 1850. He married Amanda J. Haskins, who died 26 Jun 1876. They had four children, Frances E., Stella B., Leet, and Harry W. He married 2nd Mary Brown of Pulaski, Pulaski County. 19 Oct 1889 Minnie Abernathie, oldest daughter of William R. and Mary M. Rendleman, youngest child and only son of C.C. and Delia Rendleman, died 2 Oct 1889, aged 5 years, 15 days. 26 Oct 1889: Joseph Fecklenberg, of Madison County, was thrown from a mule. Henley S. Hurst died 17 Aug 1889, at the residence of his daughter in Anna, aged 63 years. He was born in Clarebourn County, Tennessee, in 1826, and moved to Union County in 1869. 2 Nov 1889: Louisa D. Fisher of Dongola died 23 Oct 1889, aged 47 years, 3 months, 21 days, and was buried in Mt. Pisgah Cemetery, Pulaski County. She left a husband and four children. Edward Sutton fell from a building Tuesday last week, aged 30 years. He left a wife and one child in St. Louis. Joseph Peter Bohannon, only son of Wiley Bohannon, died 25 Oct 1889, aged 78 years. He was born 2 Sep 1811, in Lunenburg County, Virginia. His father was born in Spotsylvania County, Virginia, in 1781 and served in the Black Hawk War, and died about 1816 in Virginia. His mother also died in Virginia. His great-grandmother Peterson moved from Spotsylvania to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania about 1700 and her descendants founded Peterson’s Magazine. He moved to Cairo, Alexander County, in 1829, then to Memphis, Tennessee, then to Mississippi. He was a teacher. He married in 1838 in Tennessee, and moved to Jonesboro in 1853 and to Anna in 1856. He had three sons and four daughters, two sons and two daughters survived him: Alonzo D. Bohannon, William H. Bohannon, and Susan P. wife of A.W. Robinson all of Anna, and L.R. wife of Capt John Blackburn of Ava. Asa Parker of Makanda died Friday (25 Oct 1889) of asthema of typhoid fever, aged 28 years, 5 months, 27 days. He left a widow, a 9-month-old son, father, mother and three brothers. 9 Nov 1889: Mrs. J.W. White died 4 Nov 1889, at Ullin, Pulaski County, aged 65 years, and was buried in St. John’s Cemetery. Fannie Owens, daughter of R. Owens, died 25 Oct 1889, in Jonesboro, aged 15 years, 10 months. Daniel Lence died at the old homestead three and a half miles east of Cobden, where he was also born, aged 50 years, and was buried in Rich Cemetery. Peter John’son, old citizen of Cobden, committed suicide 5 Nov 1889, in Mr. Town’s old cow stable in the east part of Cobden. Mrs. Elizabeth (Rendleman) Lamer, wife of the Rev. John D. Lamer, died 5 Nov 1889, aged 73 years, And was buried in Mt. Tabor Cemetery. 16 Nov 1889: The Rev. Father Herlitz died 14 Nov 1889, in St. Louis. He was born in 1836 in Germany, came to America 13 years ago, and resided in Anna four years. Ferdinand F. Cline died 8 Nov 1889, aged about 54 years, and was buried in Cobden Cemetery. Mrs. Louisa Bunel, niece of Mr. A. Thomas, died 8 Nov 1889, aged 35 years, and was buried in Cobden Cemetery. Little son of P.H. Henley of Nashville, Illinois, fell into a well and drowned last week, aged 3 years. Mr. Gher, husband of Mrs. Gher restaurateur in Cobden, died at the asylum last Tuesday (26 Nov 1889), and was buried in Makanda. A third child, Roy Hess, is recovering. Mrs. John Hess was a niece of Mrs. Joseph Rendleman. Mrs. Sarah A. Knott, daughter of William B. Offutt of Cobden, died 22 Nov 1889, and was buried in Cobden Cemetery. Her funeral was at Stone Fort near Makanda. Gilbert Aikens, living on the Hartline place south of Cobden, drowned in a small pool of water Tuesday (10 Dec 1889). 21 Dec 1889: F.A. Mantzer, son of Frank Mantzer of Cobden, died 13 Dec 1889, of malarial typhoid fever, in Little Rock, Arkansas, aged 35 years. He left a wife and four children. Little daughter of Esq. A.J. Roberts of Lick Creek died a few days ago. Rebecca Stokes, wife of Jonas “Bluff Jones” Stokes, died a few days ago of kidney disease. Moses Stricker died at his residence 10 miles east of Dongola, aged 80 years, and was buried in family burying ground. Mrs. D. Earnhart, daughter of James Anderson, died 16 Dec 1889, of consumption, aged 45 years, 1 month, 29 days, and was buried in I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Dongola. She left a husband and a son. James Murray died 14 Dec 1889, at his residence in Hodges Park, Alexander County, aged 57 years, 21 days, and was buried in I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Dongola. He was born in Hagerstown, Maryland, and moved with his parents to Chicago when young, then to St. Louis, then to Cairo, then to Western Saratoga, then to Dongola, then to Ullin, then to Mill Creek, then to Dongola, and finally to Hodges Park. He was a blacksmith. He married the daughter of David Miller, deceased, of Jonesboro. They had three children, all of whom died at an early age. He married 2nd the daughter of Louis Meisenheimer, deceased. They had five children, three daughters and one son survive. Angelo Adams died 11 Nov 1889, aged 83 years. He was lost in the woods near Pine, Missouri, and when found his body had been partially eaten by wolves. William G. Campbell died at the residence of his son-in-law, W.H. Walker, in Jonesboro, aged 57 years, 8 months, 24 days. 28 Dec 1889: Abram Hargrave died in Arkansas several weeks ago. He was a soldier in Capt.
