18 Jan 1890: Annie Hoffman, daughter of George Hoffman of four miles south of Troy, was burned to death Wednesday, aged 4 years. Larkin C. Stokes, son of W.S. Stokes, died 13 Jan 1890, aged 4 years, 11 months, 2 days, and was buried in McGinnis Cemetery near Mt. Pleasant. 25 Jan 1890: Al Chamberlain was kicked by a colt chasing a pig and died Monday (20 Jan 1890?) near Golconda, Pope County. Daughter of Jacob Taylor died 11 Jan 1890, in Alto Pass, aged 2 years. Daughter of Walter Corgan died 7 Jan 1890, in Alto Pass, aged 7 years. Cindonna Earnest, daughter of Charles Corzine, died 21 Jan 1890, of consumption, aged 25 years, 5 months, 28 days. She left a husband and several children. Charles Rice, son of Jasper Rice, died 20 Jan 1890, aged 22 months, and was buried in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Dongola. 1 Feb 1890: Mr. Poor of Johnson County died of la grippe. Mr. McKey of Johnson County died of la grippe. Lillis Broadway, wife of J.B.B. Broadway, oldest daughter of Alvan Robinson, was killed jumping from a train near Riverdale, and was buried in Cobden Cemetery. She was born east of Makanda. (See also 8 Feb 1890, issue.) William Rose, aged 24 years, Daniel Asbury, aged 14 years, Lizzie Bowles, aged 18 years, and Lou Asbury, aged 17 years, were drowned in Fish Pond in Emma Township, White County. Dr. J.C. Walton, “colored member of the Cairo Board of Pension Examiners,” died 13 Jan 1890. Oldest woman in Illinois, “colored,” died in Elgin, aged 120 years (!). Frank Agnew Kling, son of Louis and Burdella Kling, died 28 Jan 1890, in Centralia, aged 5 months, 10 days, and was buried in Evergreen Cemetery in Makanda. Sidney V. Ingram died 26 Jan 1890, at the residence of his father, days.W. Ingram, near Jonesboro, aged 27 years, and was buried in Anna Cemetery. His mother died in April 1889, and his wife died in September 1889. He was a Baptist. He was the last of a family of 13 children of D.W. Ingram. Joseph Levy, formerly from Anna, died in Fort Worth, Texas. J. Frank Ashley died 27 Jan 1890, of apoplexy at his residence in Anna, aged 59 years. He was county surveyor and one of the first surveyors employed by the Illinois Central railroad. E.W. “Wayne” Whitlock died in Cairo, Alexander County, last Wednesday (29 Jan 1890?), and was buried in Jonesboro Cemetery. He was a Mason. 8 Feb 1890: Eliza C. Holmes, wife of John P. Holmes, died 3 Feb 1890, in Dongola, aged 53 years, 5 months, 28 days. Mariah Corzine, wife of Wesley Corzine, died 30 Jan 1890, five miles north of Dongola, aged 53 years. Arabella Karraker, wife of John Karraker, daughter of Zach Groner, died 2 Feb 1890, at her residence two and a half miles east of Dongola, aged 25 years, and was buried in Hinkle Cemetery. Charles Ridgeway died 3 Feb 1890, at the residence of C. Penrod in Dongola, aged 63 years, and was buried in I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Dongola. He was born in Lewistown, Maine. George W. Bowland, of Randolph County, died 23 Jan 1890, when struck by a falling tree, aged 40 years. Mrs. Charlie Wolland died last Friday (1 Feb 1890?) and was buried in Evergreen Cemetery near Makanda. She left seven children. Child of Mr. Ford of Anna died of small pox. James Costigan died at Sisters Hospital in Cairo, Alexander County, last Thursday (31 Feb 1890?), and was buried in Anna Cemetery. He left a wife and a large family of children. Larry Everett Grace, son of T.R. and Dora Grace, died 4 Feb 1890, in Anna, aged 2 years, 6 months, 25 days. Emeline Koenig, wife of J.J. Koenig, daughter of Old Dr. Brooks, died 31 Jan 1890, in Pomona, Jackson County, and was buried in Jonesboro Cemetery. She was born in thr Brooks homestead south of Jonesboro. 15 Feb 1890: J.H. Wilson of Sandoval was kicked by horse and died Saturday. Christ Orth died in the railroad hospital in Sedalia, Missouri, of pneumonia. Miles Cauble of near Elco, Alexander County, died of pneumonia last Wednesday (12 Feb 1890?). 22 Feb 1890: John Michas, of Randolph County, died 27 Jan 1890, in Sparta. Mrs. Hiriam Horine, widow of Jacob Horine of Monroe County, died 6 Feb 1890, near Waterloo. Hon. R.R. Townes died 17 Feb 1890, in Athens, Alabama, aged 48 years. He was born in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. He was in Logan’s Regiment during the Civil War. He married a daughter of Judge Lane of Athens. Agnes Sperry, daughter of I.M. and M.L. Sperry, died 17 Feb 1890, aged 23 years, 6 months, 11 days, And was buried in Cobden Cemetery. Helen St. John, daughter of George R. St. John deceased, died, aged 17 years, 5 months, 1 day, and was buried in Anna Cemetery. Her father died of consumption. Jacob Mees died 13 Feb 1890, at the residence of his son, David Mees, five miles south of Jonesboro, aged 68 years, 3 months.
1 Mar 1890: Frank Lipe died 4 Feb 1890, in Roundtree Township, Montgomery County, of la grippe and pneumonia, aged 18 years. He weighed 375 pounds. Thomas Nash, of Jersey City, died of consumption. Francis Thielen committed suicide 6 Feb 1890, in the woods in Randolph County, aged 74 years. Kate Anderson, sister of F.P. Anderson, died Monday in Little Rock. Lavina Gott, mother-in-law of J.H. Boyer of Anna, died in September 1889, and was buried in Anna Cemetery. Her sister had her body exhumed to be buried in Terre Haute, Indiana, but Mr. Boyer secured a writ to have her buried again in Anna Cemetery. Mrs. Fred Oliver died 24 Feb 1890, in Hodges Park, Alexander County, aged 49 years, and was buried in Jonesboro. 8 Mar 1890: Joseph Booth, of Highland, died, aged 67 years. Hammond K. Goodwin, brother of William Goodwin, died at the residence of his mother in Makanda, and was buried in Evergreen Cemetery. He was a G.A.R. member. Cleo Mills, son of Charles Mills, died 3 Mar 1890, of pneumonia, aged 3 years, 3 months, 22 days, and was buried in Anna Cemetery. Paul Lingle, father of Mrs. Jake Rendleman, died 27 Feb 1890, of pneumonia, and was buried in Casper Cemetery. 22 Mar 1890 Mrs. Riley Pertle died last week of la grippe, and was buried in Jerusalem Cemetery. She was a Baptist. She left a blind husband and three small children. Mrs. Thomas Norton died of consumption near Alto Pass. James Travers died. Dr. Mumford M. Goodman died 14 Mar 1890, aged 58 years, 9 months and 2 days, and was buried in Jonesboro Cemetery. He was born 12 Jun 1831, in Rowan County, North Carolina. When 21 he moved to Union County with his father, Moses Goodman. He had four brothers and two sisters; one brother and one sister died several years ago. His mother died in 1860. His father died in 1888. He graduated in 1855 from St. Louis Medical College. He married Mary Ann Willard. He left three children, all living in California. Alexander Keller died Wednesday (19 Mar 1890) at his residence three miles south of Jonesboro of consumption. He left a wife and several children.
29 Mar 1890 Kate Keller, wife of Mart Keller, died 22 Mar 1890, aged 40 years. William Patrick, half brother of George W. Patrick, died Wednesday (26 Mar 1890) in Makanda of typhoid fever. Benjamin L. Wiley died 22 Mar 1890, at his residence near Makanda, aged 68 years. He was born 25 Mar 1821, in Smithfield, Jefferson County, Ohio. He landed 13 Jun 1845, at Metropolis, Massac County, and walked to Vienna, Johnson County. He was a school teacher. In 1846 he enlisted in John M. Cunningham’s Company, 1st Regiment Illinois Volunteers, during the Mexican War. He moved to Jonesboro and helped found and edit the Jonesboro Gazette in 1849. He married on 5 Dec 1850, Emily Davie. He had seven sons and two daughters, ages 17 to 38. He had a hardware store in Jonesboro, then became a traveling salesman in Illinois, Missouri, and Kentucky. He was founder of Cobden with L.W. Ashley and D.L. Phillips. He moved in August 1860 to his farm near Makanda. He was Lt. Col. of 5th Illinois Cavalry during the Civil War, enlisting 9 Sep 1861. He was disabled by rheumatism. He was appointed enrolling commissioner at Cairo, and mustered out May 1865. He was a Whig, but became a Republican at the party’s organization. He ran for Congress in 1856 and 1876. He was a Mason. He was a Quaker from birth, although he did not conform to their dress and dialect. In 1885 he had a stroke of paralysis. 5 Apr 1890: Jane “Aunt Jennie” Caudle died 11 Mar 1890, at her residence near New Palestine, aged 102 years, and was buried on the old homestead. She was born in Georgia to John Lively and was adopted by Nat Hill of Randolph County after her parents and family were murdered by Indians. She married William Caudle when 15 or 16. William Jackson Parish died Monday (31 Mar 1890) at his residence in Carbondale, Jackson County, Monday from wounds received at Fort Donelson in February 1862. Cornwall Kirkpatrick, father of William Kirkpatrick of Dexter, Missouri, and brother of Murray Kirkpatrick of Ottowa, died at his residence in Anna, aged 75 years. He was a Mason. (See also 12 Apr 1890, issue.) Esther Josepha Metzger, daughter of F.W. and F.C. Metzger, died 1 Apr 1890, aged 5 years, 1 month, and 23 days. 12 Apr 1890 Hon. D.B. “Dan” Gillham died at his residence in Upper Alton from gunshot wound received from a burglar several weeks ago. Elizabeth Turner, wife of J.Y. Turner, died 9 Apr 1890, in Cairo, Alexander County, aged 40 years, and was buried in Jonesboro Cemetery. Charles Williford died 9 Apr 1890, in Jonesboro at the residence of his parents, C.H. and Mary E. Williford, of consumption, aged 31 years, 4 months, 29 days. 19 Apr 1890 Raymond Lee Rich, son of Robert L. and Emma B. Rich, died 14 Apr 1890, and was buried in Green Bean Cemetery. George Topping, of Centralia, brakeman for the railroad, was run over by a train and died, aged 22 years. James M. Mozley died 12 Apr 1890, of erysipelas in Jonesboro, aged 43 years, 4 months, 21 days. He was born in Johnson County. He served in Company M, 6th Cavalry during the Civil War. He married Melessa Webb. He had two sons and two daughters. A.H. Irvin, nephew of J.K. Walton deceased, died Monday (14 Apr 1890) of paralysis, aged 48 years. 26 Apr 1890 Mrs. Allen Thomas, “colored,” was shot and killed in Cairo, Alexander County, by her husband 9 Apr 1890. He then shot himself, but survived. John B. Mayham died Tuesday last week in Murphysboro, Jackson County. William Brickey, father of Joseph Brickey, died 18 Apr 1890, in Frankfort, Franklin County, aged 69 years, 2 months, 21 days, and was buried in Brickey Cemetery. His funeral was in Red Bud last Sunday at the residence of his daughter, Marinda Gucker. Infant son of Samuel Blumenthal died 15 Apr 1890, and was buried in St. Louis, Missouri. Frank Hess, son of Silas Hess, died 22 Apr 1890, of congestion of the brain and stomach, at his residence eight miles east of Anna, aged 33 years, and was buried in Anna Cemetery. He left a wife and two small children. Frank Renshaw died 18 Apr 1890, at the residence of his uncle, O.H. Baker, aged 19 years. 3 May 1890 Lucretia Threet died 13 Apr 1890, of la grippe and pneumonia, aged 70 years. She was a Methodist. Matthew John Cunningham died 13 Apr 1890, in Centralia, aged 82 years. John A. Roberts died 29 Apr 1890, in Anna of pneumonia, aged 39 years, 2 months, 19 days, and was buried in Anna Cemetery. He was born in Georgia and came to Union County during the Civil War and to Anna in 1885. He left a wife and four children. Robert S. Reynolds, father of Bobby Reynolds, died 23 Apr 1890, aged 74 years, 4 months, 8 days, and
was buried in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. He came to Union County about 1846 from Maryland. 10 May 1890: Infant child of W.P. Green died 5 May 1890, in Cobden, and was buried in Cobden Cemetery. 17 May 1890: Mary Williams, widow of Gabriel Williams, died 13 May 1890, in Jonesboro, aged 82 years. Her husband came from Tennessee to Jonesboro in 1842, and built Williams Hotel on West Main Street in Jonesboro, before he died in 1852. They had five daughters and three sons; three daughters, Roxanna Hanson, Julia Musselman and Martha (Mrs. M.P. McClure) of Alexander County, and one son, George Williams, survive. Baird, died 26 May 1890, at her residence in Anna, aged 49 years, 3 months, 8 days. Mary Pearl English, daughter of J.R. English, died 24 May 1890, in Jonesboro, aged 4 months, 14 days, and was buried in Jonesboro Cemetery. 7 Jun 1890 Twin sons of H.R. and Alice Lindsey of Elco, Alexander County, nephews of Mrs. J.M. Lee of Jonesboro and Mrs. Scott Leming of Alto Pass, died at birth 26 May 1890. (See also 14 Jun 1890, issue.) 21 Jun 1890: Nellie E. Kimmel, wife of David Kimmel, died 16 Jun 1890, of consumption at her residence two miles west of Jonesboro, aged 28 years. Mathias Gattinger died 19 Jun 1890, in Jonesboro, aged 81 years, 8 months, 6 days, and was buried in Kohlener Cemetery. His children were John Gattinger, Joseph Gattinger, Mrs. J.G. Soergel, Mrs. J.M. Grieb, and Mrs. Paul Misenhimer. Eliza Davidson (nee Mercer), widow of Hon. J.W. Davidson, who drowned in Clear Creek 10 years ago, died 15 Jun 1890, in Jonesboro of bilious dysentery, aged about 67 years. She was a Baptist. 28 Jun 1890: Mrs. George Hartline died 21 Jun 1890, and was buried in Casper Cemetery. Child of Albert Fox died last week in Makanda of cerebro spinal fever. Daughter of Jeff and Allie Cover died last Tuesday (24 Jun 1890?) in Makanda. 5 Jul 1890: John Fisher of Makanda was run over by an engine on his farm Tuesday (1 Jul 1890), aged nearly 70 years. Mary Lufkin, mother of John E. Lufkin, died at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. Mary Thomas in La Grange, Missouri, Monday (30 Jun 1890), aged 83 years, and was buried in Villa Ridge Cemetery, Pulaski County. John “Jack” Harris of Anna, son-in-law of Zadock Elms, died 1 Jul 1890. Clara Augusta Bauer, daughter of Martin and Theresia Bauer, died 30 Jun 1890, three and a half miles south of Jonesboro, aged 5 months, 7 days, and was buried in Ebenezer Cemetery. 12 Jul 1890: Boyakin Ditch of Waterloo, Monroe County, was killed by a Mobile & Ohio train a few days ago, aged 47 years. He left a wife and two children. Mrs. Wallace, aged mother of Esquire Wallace of Thebes, Alexander County, died 6 Jul 1890, and weas buried in Thebes Cemetery. Son of John O. Durall of Cobden died 9 Jul 1890, aged 4 years. Jennie D. (Tibbets) Sanders, formerly of Jonesboro, died 7 Jul 1890, at her residence in East Cape Girardeau, Alexander County, aged 37 years. She was a Baptist. She married James L. Sanders. She left three children aged 7 years, 3 years, and 1 day. 26 Jul 1890: Son of Jeff Davidson died a few days ago on the Willis Cauble farm, aged 1 ½ years. Daughter of Frank Sprouse died Monday (21 Jul 1890) of cholera infantum, aged 1 year, and was buried at Mt. Tabor. Mr. Feezelle died 17 Jul 1890, when struck by lightning on the G.W. James farm near Alto Pass. He left a wife and children. Eliza Casper, wife of Henry Casper, died 16 Jul 1890, at her residence two miles west of Cobden, aged 75 years, 6 months, 10 days, and was buried in Rich Cemetery. Mary M. Tinsley, wife of J.A. Tinsley, died 17 Jul 1890, at her residence four miles west of Jonesboro of billious remittent fever, aged 36 years. 2 Aug 1890: Mrs. Hardy died last Wednesday (30 Jul 1890) in Cobden, and was buried in Cobden Cemetery. 9 Aug 1890 Alice E. Lindsey, wife of Hugh R. Lindsey, daughter of Mrs. William Martin, sister of Mrs. Scott Leming, died 5 Aug 1890, at her residence in Jonesboro, aged 23 years, 11 days, and was buried in Jonesboro Cemetery. She was a Methodist. Her funeral was Wednesday (6 Aug 1890) Mary Bessie McCoubrey, daughter of William McCoubrey of Memphis, Tennessee, died 30 Jul 1890, at the residence of her grandfather, A. McCoubrey at Jessen’s Mill, aged 14 months, and was buried in Mt. Tabor Cemetery. Luna Penrod was run over by a train crossing the tracks in Dongola Monday (4 Aug 1890), aged 16 years, and was buried in I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Pearl Cassell, youngest daughter of John Cassell of Cottage Home, Williamson County, was killed 3 Aug 1890, in a wagon accident, aged 13 years, and was buried in Pleasant Hill Cemetery. She left a sister, Lonie Cassell, aged 16 years. Emma Gilbert, wife of Charles Gilbert of Murphysboro, Jackson County, formerly of Jonesboro, died 27 Jul 1890. The funeral of the daughter of Thomas Lawrence of Mill Creek was Monday (4 Aug 1890). 16 Aug 1890: Kesia Collins, wife of N.B. Collins, died 8 Aug 1890, at her residence near Alto Pass, aged 72 years. She married N.B. Collins 54 years ago. She had eight children; four were living. Ellen Ramsey, “colored,” of Metropolis, Massac County, was thrown from a mule in Metropolis and died 29 Jul 1890, aged 17 years. Alexander Hight, only son of Capt. W.A. Hight, was killed by a train near the depot in Wetaug, Pulaski County, on Tuesday (12 Aug 1890), aged 42 years. He left a widow and eight children. 23 Aug 1890: Charles Mitchel of Irvington, a brakeman on the Illinois Central, was killed Thursday (21 Aug 1890) in Cobden. 30 Aug 1890: Maggie Coleman, wife of Joseph L. Coleman, died 21 Aug 1890. Frank Rambow, son of Mrs. Elmer Rambow of Pope County, died last spring in Jonesboro. 6 Sep 1890: Mrs. Kate B. Milton died 1 Sep 1890, at her residence in Cobden. Allie H. Cover, wife of Will E. Cover, died in Cairo, Alexander County, last week, and was buried in Evergreen Cemetery in Makanda. She left three children. Frank Neibauer, oldest son of Nicholas and Johanna (Franke) Neibauer, died 31 Aug 1890, in Dongola. He was born 9 Oct 1834, in Furstenthum, North Germany. His father was a mason and died in Germany at age 65. His mother was still living in Germany. He had three brothers and five sisters, all living but his youngest brother. He landed in New York 22 Jun 1854, and came to Dongola in 1858. He married November 1859 Rachel Keller, who died 28 Dec 1875. She had seven children, five living: Jane, Henry, Sarah J., Lucinda, and Frederick W. He married in March 1877, Mary Craver. She had two children. He was a Lutheran. (See also 13 Sep 1890, issue.) Sarah Brady, wife of Michael Brady, mother of Albert Brady and Margaret Brady, died 1 Sep 1890, at her residence in Anna, aged 72 years, 8 months, 18 days, and was buried in Lyerly Cemetery, six miles south of Anna near the Brady farm. She was Catholic. She had five children; two survive. Robert Goodman, uncle of Marion Reed, brother-in-law of F.M. Reed, was killed by G.T. & C.G. train in Ware last Friday (29 Aug 1890), and was buried in Jonesboro Cemetery. He left a wife and several children. He was returning home from the county fair intoxicated. 13 Sep 1890 David J. Nettinger died 6 Sep 1890, in Cobden, aged 21 years, 5 months, 15 days. (See also 20 Sep 1890, issue.) Joe Wein was killed by lightning at his residence five miles south of Pinckneyville, aged 16 years. 20 Sep 1890 Widow Arnold died in Thebes, Alexander County, Sunday. She was formerly from Indiana. 27 Sep 1890 Charles Monroe, son of G.W. Monroe of near Pomona Ridge School, Jackson County, died, aged 17 years. Joel Robert English, son of J.R. English, died 22 Sep 1890, at the residence of his parents in Jonesboro, aged 5 years, 8 months, 13 days.
4 Oct 1890 J.A. Lookinbee died. He left a wife and one daughter, Mrs. David Rushing. He was a Baptist. Herbert Hileman, son of W.J. Hileman, died 18 Sep 1890, at his residence near Anna, aged 5 years. 11 Oct 1890 Will Turner, son of J.Y. Turner of Cairo, Alexander County, died 4 Oct 1890, in Cairo, aged 18 years, 6 months, and was buried in Jonesboro Cemetery. His mother formerly resided in Jonesboro.
18 Oct 1890 Ruth Holcomb, daughter of Charles B. and Mary Holcomb, niece of W.T. Holcomb of Centralia, died 10 Oct 1890, aged 6 years, 16 days, and was buried in Cobden Cemetery.
15 Nov 1890 Lydia Edmunds Cover died 10 Nov 1890, in Makanda, Jackson County, aged 69 years, 2 months, 1 day. She was born in America (Pulaski County) 9 Sep 1821, to Col. Henry L. and Mary Ann Webb. Her parents came to Illinois from New York in 1820 and settled at America near the mouth of Cache River. She was baptized on her 18th birthday at Shiloh Baptist Church. She married on 8 Jun 1851, Ephraim Cover. She moved to Jonesboro and in 1864 to Makanda. She was appointed postmistress at Makanda by Pres. Cleveland. (See also 13 Dec 1890, issue.) Mary F. Rhoades died 6 Nov 1890, at Mountain Glen, aged 35 years, 2 months, 3 days. 22 Nov 1890 James R. Smith died 20 Nov 1890, of la grippe and bronchitis, at his residence in Alto Pass, aged 66 years, 3 months, 12 days, and was buried in Hagler burying ground. He was born 8 Aug 1824, in Rome County, Tennessee, and came to Illinois in 1852. He was a Methodist. He left eight children. His first wife died many years ago. He also left a second wife and a baby boy. (See also 29 Nov 1890, issue.) Ed Thomas died last Sunday (16 Nov 1890) at Moore of pneumonia. Thomas Hileman, son of John Hileman and grandson of Jacob Hileman Sr., died 20 Nov 1890, at his residence in Jonesboro, aged 75 years, 3 months, and was buried in Jonesboro Cemetery. He was born 19 Aug 1815, in Salisbury, North Carolina. Came to Union County when 10 with his parents and settled near Mill Creek. At aged 21 he moved to Jonesboro and became a tailor. He married Nancy A. Smith on 6 Oct 1846. They had three children. He left a wife and one child, Alice B. Willard, wife of E.A. Willard of Mexico, a fugitive from justice. Alice was the mother of one son and two daughters. (See also 29 Nov 1890, and 20 Dec 1890, issues.) 29 Nov 1890 Andrew Johnson hanged himself in jail in Monmouth. Mrs. Choat of New Columbia, mother of Mrs. J.W. Burnett of Alto Pass, died last Wednesday (26 Nov 1890) at the hospital in Anna, aged about 73 years, and was buried in Metropolis, Massac County. Elise Miller, daughter of Joseph Miller, died 27 Nov 1890, aged 5 weeks, and was buried in Limestone Cemetery. 6 Dec 1890 Egbert Cavaness, son of W.H. and Marzella Cavaness, died 27 Nov 1890, aged 3 years, 3 months, 13 days. Absolem Rinehart, grandson of old Jacob Rinehart, died in Springville of typho-malaria and inflammation of bowels, aged 21 years. He was born in Union County and married, when 18, Nellie Crowell, daughter of M.C. Crowell. He left a wife and two children. Hiram W. Keith, formerly of Union County, died 27 Nov 1890, in Cape Girardeau County, Missouri, aged 46 years.
13 Dec 1890 Peter Fly, formerly of Makanda, died at his residence in Williamson County north of Pulley’s Mill. Child of Kittie Clutts died of scarlet fever. One child of Jacob Clutts died Sunday (7 Dec 1890) and the other child died Monday (8 Dec 1890) of scarlet fever and pneumonia. They were buried in the same casket. (See also 20 Dec 1890, issue.) W.J. Garrett died at his residence four miles east of Dongola, aged 35 years, 8 months, 20 days, and was buried in Meisenheimer graveyard. Frank Lowe of Marion, Williamson County, died last week, aged 52 years. He arrested Marshall Crain, assassin of Capt. Sisney, in Arkansas, which led to the hanging of Crain and the breaking of the Crain-Bollenger feud in Williamson County. Mr. Kohler of Murphysboro, Jackson County, brakeman on the railroad, brother-in-law of Mike Fleming of Venice, was killed Friday last week (5 Dec 1890) at Mountain Glen, and was buried in Venice.
27 Dec 1890: William R. Dickerson of Makanda died at his residence south of Mrs. Zimmerman’s last Saturday (20 Dec 1890) of consumption. He left a young wife and two small children.
10 Jan 1891: Villa D. Rendleman, daughter of C.C. Rendleman of Alto Pass, died 2 Jan 1891, of ulcerated tonsillitis, aged 7 years, 11 months, 21 days, and was buried in Cobden Cemetery. Her sister, Ara Rendleman was also ill. Yilpah Jones died 31 Dec 1890, at the residence of her mother, Mrs. Betsy Ferrill, four miles north of Cobden, aged 64 years, 28 days. She had lived in Tennessee the past 30 years and returned to Union County 1 Dec 1890. George T. “Mac” McMurray, a traveling salesman, died 26 Dec 1890, in Chicago of Bright’s disease. Elizabeth (Hess) Rendleman died 30 Dec 1890, at her residence in Anna, aged 67 years, 2 months, 20 days, and was buried in Anna Cemetery. She was born on the Hess farm east of Anna 10 Oct 1823. She married Levi Craver at aged 17. He died September 1865. She had 10 children, 7 survived her, Mrs. Emily Hart of Anna, Mrs. Mary Neibauer of Dongola, A. Craver, Mrs. A. McNaughton of Anna, Elizabeth Rendleman of Makanda, Will Craver of Dongola, Charley Craver of Anna. She married August 1879 John Rendleman, who died 10 Feb 1889. After her second marriage she lived in Makanda and Anna. Mrs. Charles Dillow died 28 Dec 1890, in Anna Precinct, aged 64 years, and was buried in Jonesboro Cemetery.
24 Jan 1891: Mary J. Vancil, eldest daughter of Levi Vancil, long since deceased, died 18 Jan 1891, at the residence of Amos Poole one miles north of Cobden, aged 37 years, 10 months.
31 Jan 1891: Jennie Dillow, daughter of Jerome and Mary Dillow, died at her residence one mile west of Dongola, aged 6 years. Infant daughter of Charles Corbit died 12 Jan 1891. Mr. Lindsey of Pomona was killed in a hunting accident a few days ago, aged 17 years. Turla Dugan, daughter of John Dugan of Jonesboro, died 27 Jan 1891, aged 7 years.
7 Feb 1891: Susan Elizabeth Elms died 30 Jan 1891, at her residence in Jonesboro, aged 54 years, 6 months, and was buried in Jonesboro Cemetery. She was born in Fincastle, Botetourt County, Virginia, 7 Aug 1836, and married G.W. Elms on 30 Dec 1855. She had 14 children, nine preceded her in death. She joined Anna Methodist church 16 Feb 1855.
14 Feb 1891: A.L. Ong, wife of P.A. Ong, died 7 Feb 1891, at her residence in Trenton, Tennessee, and was buried I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Dongola. William M. Brown died 31 Jan 1891, at St. John’s Hospital in St. Louis, aged 45 years, 9 months, 29 days, and was buried in old city cemetery in Murphysboro, Jackson County. He was born 2 Apr 1846, and came to Murphysboro in spring 1879. Left a wife and two daughters.
21 Feb 1891: Mrs. Henry Thomas was shot and killed by her husband in Carbondale, Jackson County. He was sentenced to life in Chester penitentiary. (This may be the same person as Allen Thomas mentioned in the April 1890 paper.) Lafayette Hilton, oldest son of John and Maria Hilton, died 11 Feb 1891, aged 5 years, 5 months, 4 days, and was buried in Cobden Cemetery. Robert Bryden of Carbondale, Jackson County, husband of Jennie Bryden, died in the hospital in Anna. 28 Feb 1891: Maggie Turner, youngest daughter of Mr. Turner of Thebes, Alexander County, died 15 Feb 1891. Corda Williams, daughter of John Williams, died 19 Feb 1891, was buried in Karraker Cemetery. Samuel Atherton Hunsaker, son of Elijah W. and Emeline E. Hunsaker, died 20 (also as 21) Feb 1891, in Johnson County, and was buried in I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Vienna, Johnson County. He was born 11 Dec 1850, south of Jonesboro. His father died in 1866 and his mother married Thomas Lence of Jonesboro. He left one brother, John E. Hunsaker of Vienna, and two sisters, Mrs. T.C. Cozby and Mrs. H.P. Cozby of Jonesboro. He married on 3 Sep 1876, Ella Hunsaker, eldest daughter of Mortimore Hunsaker of Johnson County. She died 13 Aug 1885. They had three children, two girls and one boy, Mortie Hunsaker, who died eight years ago. He married 2nd on 30 Mar 1886, Alice E. Kimmel. (See also 14 Mar 1891, issue). 7 Mar 1891 Mrs. Page was buried on the Page farm near Mountain Glen. Hers was the first grave there. David Johnson, brakeman, was instantly killed near Litchfield when he fell under the cars. John Roberts, father-in-law of the Rev. D.R. Pryor, died 22 Feb 1891, at his residence in Massac County, aged 83 years. Herbert Fiss, son of Charles C. Fiss, died 20 Feb 1891, in Cobden, aged 7 years, and was buried in Cobden Cemetery. Mrs. Frank Petsch died 28 Feb 1891, at her residence in Cobden, and was buried on the Petsch farm adjoining the Rendleman Cemetery near Mountain Glen. Warren Chase died Wednesday (4 Mar 1891) at his residence in Cobden, aged 78 years. He was a member of the California Senate and candidate for governor of Wisconsin. He came to Illinois in 1860. He left an aged wife, one son, A. Chase of St. Louis, and one daughter, Mrs. Dr. T.J. Whelpley of Cobden.
14 Mar 1891: Tony Barnett, “colored” living on Evergreen farm in Jackson County, died 28 Feb 1891 when his buggy overturned on his way to his father-in-law’s at Harrison. He left a wife and two children. John D. Lamer died 4 Mar 1891, at his residence one mile west of Cobden, aged 75 years, 2 months, 24 days. He was a Baptist preacher. George W. Carlock, son of J. Carlock, died 4 Mar 1894, at his residence east of Dongola of consumption, aged 17 years, and was buried in Union Cemetery. Child of Mr. Rose of Alto Pass died 4 Mar 1891, aged nearly 2 years. Margaret Bartsch died 7 Mar 1891, at her residence four miles north of Jonesboro, of diabetes, aged 51 years, 26 days. She left an aged mother, a husband, three children, one sister, and two brothers.
21 Mar 1891: Jacob C. “Crockett” Meisenheimer died 11 Mar 1891, three miles east of Carbondale. He was born 11 Dec 1835, near Jonesboro on the farm owned by Giles N. Meisenheimer. He married on 1 Jan 1867, Temperance Keller. He had eight children, seven survived him. He enlisted 19 Aug 1862, in Company H, 18th Illinois Infantry. He was a Mason. He left two half brothers, John N. Meisenheimer of Meisenheimer Precinct and Paul Meisenheimer of Dongola. Ada Patterson, niece of Mrs. Stinson and Mrs. Bohannon of Anna, died a few days ago of consumption at San Francisco, California, aged about 22 years. She left an aged father and a brother.
28 Mar 1891: Mrs. Dr. Montgomery of Mill Creek died 22 Mar 1891. She left three sons and two daughters. Charley Rendleman committed suicide by hanging himself from a tree Friday (20 Mar 1891?), and was buried in Hinkle Cemetery beside his parents. Father of Frank Harris of Cairo, Alexander County, died 21 Mar 1891, in Richview, aged over 70 years. Charles H. Weaver died 25 Mar 1891, at his residence four miles south of Jonesboro, of typhoid fever, aged 27 years, and was buried in St. John’s Cemetery. He left a mother, brother, and sisters. His name is also recorded as Charles B. Weaver. (See also 11 Apr 1891, issue.)
4 Apr 1891: Mrs. John Laws died 27 Mar 1891, of heart trouble, aged 36 years, and was buried in Jonesboro Cemetery. She was a Baptist. She left a husband and three children. John W. Davault died 26 Mar 1891, at his residence six miles east of Dongola. He left a wife and two children. Robert Hess died 19 Mar 1891, and Polly Hess died 22 Mar 1891, in Murphysboro. They had been married for over half a century and death could not part them long. The father of Mrs. William Campbell died in Jackson, Missouri.
11 Apr 1891: Lena Parker, daughter of Jesse A. and Mary Parker, died of meningitis (brain fever) Wednesday last week (1 Apr 1891). Col. W.E. Moberly died 3 Apr 1891, at his residence one mile north of Cobden, aged 69 years, 21 days, And was buried in Cobden. He was a G.A.R. member. Rinda Montgomery, wife of William Montgomery, died at her residence six miles east of Dongola. Thomas Morford Perrine died 8 Apr 1891, at his residence in Anna, aged 55 years, 5 months, 18 days, and was buried in Jonesboro Cemetery. He was born 20 Oct 1835, in St. Louis. He was a pilot on the Mississippi River and then a clerk in Davie Store in Jonesboro. He married on 4 May 1859, Mary A. Davie. He enlisted in August 1862 in 109th Infantry as a major and was promoted to lieutenant colonel 1 Feb 1863. S.T. Dance, brakeman on the M & O railroad was killed Friday last week (3 Apr 1891) near Springville when he fell from the train. His body was shipped to Mrs. Mattie Vick in Ferguson, Kentucky. Willis Angell, formerly of Jonesboro, died 5 Mar 1891, of pneumonia at his residence in Mississippi County, Arkansas, aged about 50 years. He left a widow and nine children. Charles Carroll Ury, son of J.L. and E. Ury, died 9 Apr 1891, in Jonesboro, aged 11 years, 5 months, 24 days. John Hale died 1 Apr 1891, in Mill Creek of dropsy. He left a wife and five children. Peter M. Cruse of Mill Creek died 31 Mar 1891, aged 68 years.

Child of John Jackson, who came from Indiana a year ago, burned to death near Makanda. Mrs. John O’Donnell was buried in Evergreen Cemetery, Makanda, 28 Mar 1891. John O’Donnell of Harrisburg, Saline County, formerly of Makanda, was buried 12 Apr 1891, in Evergreen Cemetery. Effie Hunter, youngest daughter of Elles B. Hunter, died 8 Apr 1891, at Harrison of diphtheria, and was buried in Evergreen Cemetery, Makanda. David McKernen died 11 Apr 1891, at his residence in Cobden, aged 23 years, 13 days, and was buried in Cobden Cemetery. David Adams died 13 Apr 1891. Charles Montgomery died at his residence five miles east of Dongola, aged 30 years, 8 days, and was buried in Friendship Cemetery. He was a member of Friendship Baptist Church. Daniel M. Kimmel, second child of G.W. Kimmel deceased, died 10 Apr 1891, at his residence west of Dongola and five miles south of Jonesboro, aged 45 years, 7 months, 1 day, and was buried in Union (Mission) Chapel Cemetery. He was born 9 Sep 1845, on the old Cover place southwest of Jonesboro. When 18 he was baptized and joined Jonesboro Baptist Church and later became a member of Big Creek Baptist Church. He married on 29 Apr 1867, Margaret E. Otrich. She had four daughters. He left a widow, one child, Mrs. Henry Heilig, three brothers and two sisters. (See also 25 Apr 1891, issue.) Elizabeth Pelley, daughter of Joseph Pelley, died Sunday night in Anna. James H. Arnett was killed Tuesday near Vienna, Johnson County, allegedly by Ed Stanley and Burb Stanley. Ed was acquitted and Burb was declared insane and brought to the Anna asylum last Saturday (18 Jul 1891). (See also 25 Jul 1891, issue.)
2 May 1891 Mary Elvira Fitch, wife of James N. Fitch, only daughter of Col. Thompson deceased, died 24 Apr 1891, two miles north of Cobden, of cancer, aged 41 years, 7 months, 24 days, and was buried in Cobden Cemetery. She was born 30 Aug 1849, in St. Clairsville, Belmont County, Ohio, and arrived on a steamboat at Willard’s Landing 3 Mar 1852. Her mother died in 1869. She married on 7 Nov 1872, on Banner Hill four miles southeast of Makanda, James N. Fitch. She left four brothers, a husband, and two sons. Henry Wells “colored” died last Monday (27 Apr 1891) of double pneumonia, aged nearly 70 years. He had resided in Makanda since the Civil War. The mother of Mrs. Emma Dougherty died in Alton and was buried 19 Apr 1891.
9 May 1891 Laura A. Piersol, wife of I.C. Piersol, died 7 May 1891, aged 32 years, 10 months, and 14 days, and was buried in Anna Cemetery. Young child of Ned Presley died in the bottoms last Saturday (2 May 1891), and was buried east of Anna.
16 May 1891 Margaret Hartline, aunt of Mrs. S.H. Spann, died 12 May 1891, at the residence of her son, I.J. Hartline, two and a half miles north of Anna, aged 71 years, 1 month, 20 days, and was buried in Casper Cemetery. She was born in North Carolina in 1814. Her parents moved to Union County when she was 2. She married June 1829 John Hartline. She had nine children, seven of whom survived her, Elizabeth Holloway of Howell County, Missouri, B.F. Hartline of Anna, Melvina Martin of Creal Springs, Serena Cauble of Alto Pass, Eliza Lingle of Cobden, I.J. Hartline of Cobden, (and John Hartline). Her husband died in 1847. She joined the Lutheran Church in 1859. (See also 23 May 1891, issue.) Mollie Vessel, daughter of Simon Vessel, died 7 May 1891, of consumption, aged 21 years, and was buried at the cemetery beyond Bald Knob. Nephew of Mrs. J.W. Burnett died in Metropolis, Massac County, the first of the week. Mrs. Margarite Fulton died 9 May 1891, at her residence in Cobden, aged 83 years, 9 months, 28 days, and was buried in Cobden Cemetery.
23 May 1891: Melvina (Shipley) Hollenback, wife of John Hollenback, died 20 May 1891, in Alto Pass, aged almost 50 years, and was buried in Jonesboro Cemetery. She married five years ago. She was the sister of Robert T. Shipley of Jonesboro and Mrs. D.R. Britton of Anna. Sarah J. Lee, wife of Ed Lee, daughter of Elias and Eliza Ellenwood of Grand Chain, Pulaski County, died 21 May 1891, aged 31 years, 8 months, 14 days, and was buried in St. John’s Cemetery. 30 May 1891 Mrs. John F. Little died 23 May 1891, aged 69 years, 2 months, 9 days, and was buried in I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Dongola. She was born in 1822 in Mississippi and married on 13 Nov 1859. She had five children, two of whom survived her, Mary Palmer of Kansas and Albert Little. Demarius Lyerly, wife of A.J. Lyerly, died 27 May 1891. Her funeral was preached at Walnut Grove on Sunday (12 Jul 1891). (See also 18 Jul 1891, issue.) Winston Elkins was shot through the heart by John Winchester in Johnson County near Vienna last Sunday (24 May 1891).
6 Jun 1891 Mary Theresa Arnold, daughter of Gustave and Ellen Arnold, died 1 Jun 1891, in Cobden, aged 4 years, 4 months, 10 days, and was buried in Cobden Cemetery. Andrew J. Peel died 2 Jun 1891, near Jonesboro, of disease contracted in the army, aged 47 years, 4 months, 22 days. Mrs. Gottlieb Knauss died at the insane asylum in Anna Friday last week (29 May 1891), and was buried in Jonesboro Cemetery.
13 Jun 1891: Mr. Gray of Alto Pass, a one-armed man, was found floating in the river at O’Bryan’s Landing. Eliza Ann (Batson) Sills died 28 May 1891, of uraemic acute Bright’s disease, aged nearly 20 years.
She married John Sills on 4 May 1890. She left a husband and a 6-day-old infant. a wife and two small children. Solomon Miller died at his residence one mile east of Springville, aged 79 years. He came to Illinois with his father in 1818 when 4 years old. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church. He married Miss Albright, deceased. They had 10 children. He left a widow and seven children. Margaret Forham, daughter of Mr. Harrigan, committed suicide 29 May 1891, near Balcom, aged 22 years.
20 Jun 1891 Caleb “Doc” Rendleman died 11 Jun 1891, at his residence two miles from Alto Pass, middle aged. Mary Butcher, daughter of William Butcher who died a few years ago, died 15 Jun 1891, at her residence north of Alto Pass of morphine habit. She left three brothers and one sister. Daniel Ziemlich committed suicide at his residence in Carterville, Williamson County, while intoxicated. He left a wife. Dennis Karraker, son of Daniel and Rachel Karraker, died 13 Jun 1891, at his residence three miles east of Dongola of congestive chill, aged 60 years, 10 months, 24 days. He came to Illinois in 1818 from Columbus County, North Carolina. He left two sisters, Mrs. William Patterson and Mrs. Jonathon Patterson, and three brothers, the Rev. Jacob Karraker, Nathan Karraker, and Wilson Karraker. He married on 19 Feb 1851, Nancy Hinkle, daughter of Philip and Sarah Hinkle, who died 18 Oct 1880. They had 11 children, seven of whom survived him. He married 2nd Mrs. Loretta Hood.
27 Jun 1891 Mrs. Asa Atherton of Vienna, Johnson County, formerly of Hodges Park, Alexander County, died Wednesday last week (17 Jun 1891), and was buried in Shiloh Cemetery. Clarissa Earle died 23 Jun 1891, at the residence of her son, Parker Earle, aged 91 years, 9 months, 4 days, And was buried in Cobden Cemetery.

18 Jul 1891 Susannah Barnum, wife of Miles J. Barnum, died 11 Jul 1891, at her residence two miles east of Cobden, aged 54 years, 5 months, 11 days, and was buried in Cobden Cemetery. Hazel B. Alden, daughter of Thomas S. Alden, died 14 Jul 1891, aged 6 months and 3 days, and was buried in Anna Cemetery. Malinda Cruse, wife of Adam Cruse, died 13 Jul 1891, aged 58 years, 4 months, 20 days.
25 Jul 1891 Julia A. Carlock, wife of Calvin Carlock, died 13 Jul 1891, at her residence six miles east of Dongola. Anthony George died 20 (or 21) Jul 1891, at his residence two miles west of Dongola, aged 83 years, 5 months, 26 days, and was buried in Pisgah Cemetery. He was born in Germany and arrived at New Orleans and married before settling in Union County. He had 12 children, nine of whom survived him. (See also 1 Aug 1891, issue.) Mrs. Eli Tindale died Monday (20 Jul 1891) in Makanda of consumption. Mrs. Martha Dillow died at her residence Tuesday (21 Jul 1891) aged about 100 years. She was the oldest person in Union County at the time of her death. Billy Hudson died Friday (17 Jul 1891) one mile northwest of Oakville, aged 62 years. He had lived there since 1858. He left a wife and 11 children. Mr. Tripp was murdered. Three men were indicted, Mr. Thompson, and Mr. Howell and Mr. Tucker from Williamson County.
8 Aug 1891 Infant of Mr. Wilson died 1 Aug 1891, at Mounds, Pulaski County, and was buried in I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Dongola. John R. Elliott died 28 Jul 1891, at the residence of his son-in-law, S.L. Carter, in Dongola, aged 65 years, 4 months, 10 days. He was born 18 Mar 1826. He was a member of Brushy Fork Baptist Church in Davis County, Kentucky and was a preacher. He left a widow. Mrs. John Cruse (Smith) died 31 Jul 1891, and was buried at the old homestead. She left a husband and three children. Maria L. Farrell, wife of Dr. C.T. Farrell, died 2 Aug 1891, aged 58 years, 2 months, and was buried in Cobden Cemetery.

22 Aug 1891: Mrs. Betstiger died 13 Aug 1891, at her residence near Springville, aged 77 years. She was born in Whittenberg, Germany in 1813. She came to this country as Widow Kohler in 1855. She had two sons and one daughter. She married Mr. Betstiger here. She was a sister of Jacob Phitzer, a weaver. Fountain Venerable, only son of James E. Venerable, died Thursday (20 Aug 1891), aged 2 years. (See also 29 Aug 1891, issue.) Daughter of the Rev. Parish of Mattoon died. Mrs. George (Bird) Barringer died 16 Aug 1891, at her residence near Jackson, Missouri. She was formerly of Cape Girardeau County, Missouri, and Jonesboro. She married Barringer in November 1877. She had four children. Charley Hurst, only child of Dr. T.J. Hurst of Tremont, died Wednesday (19 Aug 1891) at the residence of S.D. Hurst in Jonesboro, aged 3 years. Ethose Rimbold of near Ava was killed Wednesday (19 Aug 1891) by a falling tree in a storm at the gravel pit at Wolf Lake.
29 Aug 1891: Daniel Finley died 20 Aug 1891, at the residence of William F. John’son, aged 23 years. Glen Neibauer, son of F. and Mary Neibauer, died 22 Aug 1891, in Dongola, of whooping cough, aged 5 years, 6 months, 8 days, and was buried in the Odd Fellows Cemetery. Mrs. H.H. Weiting’s funeral was preached in Villa Ridge, Pulaski County.
5 Sep 1891 Caroline C. Otrich died at the residence of her son, George W. Otrich, aged 73 years, 4 months. She was born in Union County, daughter of Mathias Penninger, who came to Union County from North Carolina. She married Henry W. Otrich. She had 10 children, five of whom survived her: Serena S. Davis, Mary A. Weaver, Alice E. Rich, G.W. Otrich Sr., and C.L. Otrich. She also left one brother, G.W. Penninger, and two sisters. She was a member of Big Creek Baptist Church. Rachael (Brown) Phelan, wife of James M. Phelan, died 27 Aug 1891, aged 65 years, 4 months, and was buried in Brown Cemetery. She was born 9 Jun 1826, in North Carolina and married on 9 Apr 1847. She had 12 children, four daughters and two sons were deceased. She was a member of Big Creek Baptist Church. She also left an aged brother and sister in Piggott, Arkansas, Samuel Brown and Mrs. Maria Pollard. She also had many relatives in Kansas, Arkansas, and Washington. Nancy Lence, mother of Thomas Lence of Jonesboro, died 2 Sep 1891, in Johnson County, aged 89 years. She came from North Carolina when 5 years old.
12 Sep 1891: Cynthia Childers, twin daughter of Elijah Childers, died last Saturday (5 Sep 1891), aged about 1 ½ years, and was buried in Alto Pass Cemetery. John T. “Uncle Jackey” Messamore died 2 Sep 1891, at his residence on the edge of Alto Pass, aged 91 years, and was buried in Limestone Cemetery. He was born in Tennessee. He left a large family of children. He joined the Baptist Church in 1848. Emilie (Ritter) Reiss, sister of Charles Ritter and cousin of Mrs. John Sanders, both of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, died in an explosion of a gasoline stove at the residence of her adopted mother, Mrs. Robert Reiss, in the eastern part of Jonesboro.
19 Sep 1891 Isabella Byrd Barringer died 16 Aug 1891. She left a husband and children. Harry W. Stokes, son of Sam Stokes, died 14 Sep 1891, at the residence of his parents in Anna. Child of Fred Hoover died (?).
26 Sep 1891 George Washington Hopkins was killed 17 Sep 1891, by his nephew (or cousin), James “Jim” Hopkins. His wife died 10 to 12 years ago. He ran away with the wife of A.B. She was a Methodist. Roxie Babcock, wife of Myron Babcock, died at her residence two miles east of Anna, aged 56 years, and was buried in New York. Daniel K. Musselman died 17 Dec 1891, of pneumonia, aged 58 years. He was born in Kentucky and married twice. His last wife was Juliet Williams. He left three sons and one daughter.
26 Dec 1891: Mrs. J.B. McLaren, formerly of Cobden, died in Ullin, Pulaski County, and was buried in Cobden Cemetery. R.J. Johnson, of Makanda, died of rheumatic heart failure and la grippe, aged 70 years, and was buried in Hartman Cemetery. He left a wife, widowed sister, and three daughters, Mrs. John Harris, Mrs. Frank Hopkins, and Mrs. J.H. Sheppard. Child of Walter Dillow of two miles south of Jonesboro died of diphtheria. Johann Carl Julius Boettner died 19 Dec 1891, aged 58 years, 6 months, 12 days. He was born 7 Jun 1838, in Barigan, a small village in northern part of Germany and came to the United States in 1865. He married on 15 Feb 1866, Elizabeth Henriette Juliana Neibauer. He had three daughters and four sons. In 1867 he contracted cholera in St. Louis, and also had asthma and consumption. William Perry Turner, son of Perry B. Turner, died 19 Dec 1891, in Jonesboro, aged 4 years, 11 months, 22 days. Eva E. Massey, adopted daughter of Tolbert Massey, died in Anna, aged 2 months, and was buried in Anna Cemetery. “Mrs. Tolbert Massey has another adopted child. This time it is a little girl one month old and one of the prettiest children we have seen for a long time. We hope she may be able to raise the little one as this is the third child Mrs. Massey has taken” (5 Dec 1891, issue). Thomas Madden, formerly of Chicago, was killed by an Illinois Central freight train four miles south of Anna. Charles Dillow died last Sunday (20 Dec 1891) two miles southeast of Anna, aged 65 years. He left several children.
9 Jan 1892: Obe Wilson died at Hodges Park, Alexander County, two weeks ago. Alice E. Rich, wife of M.M. Rich, died 30 Dec 1891, at her residence four miles east of Cobden near Western Saratoga, aged 32 years, 8 months, 25 days, and was buried in Rich Cemetery near Cobden. She left a husband and five small children. She was a sister of G.W. Otrich of near Dongola, Dr. C.L. Otrich, and Mrs. Weaver of south of Jonesboro. John F. Little died 28 Dec 1891, at his residence in Dongola, aged 81 years, 1 month, 15 days, and was buried in I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Dongola. He was born in Campton, New Hampshire, 13 Nov 1810. Cora Lingle, daughter of Daniel Lingle, died 29 Dec 1891, aged 8 years. Mrs. J.C. Goodman, daughter of Adam Eddleman, died 31 Dec 1891, in Anna. She left a husband and five children. |
