W.W. Slaughter was killed by a falling tree at Mt. Pleasant Tuesday last week (31 Dec 1867).

 

18 Jan 1868:

Letta (Hoel) Reed, consort of J.E. Reed, aged 18 years, died near Anna 30 Dec 1867.

 

25 Jan 1868:

The Rev. John Wehlg, Baptist, died at Anna of consumption 22 Jan 1868.

     

8 Feb 1868:

Florence Bedella Willard, only child of E.A. and F.J. Willard, aged 5 months, died at Robins Nest,

Peoria County, 28 Jan 1868.

 

15 Feb 1868:

Dr. Strauss, of the German Lutheran Settlement, died two miles south of Jonesboro Saturday morning (8 Feb 1868).

 

29 Feb 1868:

Richard M. Nimmo, brother of A.J. Nimmo, died at Jonesboro Monday (24 Feb 1868).

 

21 Mar 1868:

Joseph A. Shelmere, of Louisville, Ky., committed suicide at Cairo, Alexander County a few days ago.

 

28 Mar 1868:

Angus Anarius McIntosh Hopper died in Jonesboro jail of typhus Saturday last (21 Mar 1868).

Thomas Arthur Lingle, youngest son of Nelson and Harriet Lingle, died of pneumonia 23 Mar 1868.

George Kimmell Sr. died 29 Mar 1868.

Henderson Palmer, of Clear Creek, Alexander County, was accidentally killed.

 

11 Apr 1868:

Charles A. Finley, aged 18 years, 5 months, died of consumption 3 Apr 1868.  

 

2 May 1868:

A man recently moved here from Missouri hanged himself (or was lynched as a horse thief) at Karraker Settlement.

Dr. J.D. Smith died at Bloomfield, Mo., 23 May 1868.

James Corzine died of congestive chill 23 May 1868.

The monument of Thomas Hileman, child of Judge Thomas Hileman, was just completed.

Richard O’Neal was murdered near Cobden by James Calvin Smidey/Smiddy 26 May 1868. (See also

25 Jul 1868:

Smith Robinson (later as Miles Robertson) was murdered at Green's Ferry 19 Jul 1868. (See also 24 Oct

Margaret Wolf, consort of Peter Wolf, died at Wellington, Mo., 29 Jul 1868.

 

29 Aug 1868:

Roswell E. Jackson, of Mississippi, aged about 20 years, was shot and killed by Maj. Ford 28 Aug 1868.

William Collins, boy residing with John M. Rich near Cobden, was kicked by horse and died Sunday night (30 Aug 1868).

D. Rinehart, an old citizen of Jonesboro, died Monday last (7 Sep 1868).

George Shreeves was shot and killed at Vancil's Landing 8 Oct 1868.

Christian M. Hileman, aged 71 years, died 19 Oct 1868.

 

31 Oct 1868:

Mr. Williford of Hardin County, died of apoplexy at Anna 29 Oct 1868.

 

7 Nov 1868:

Mr. Stanly and Mr. Cash shot and killed each other in Williamson County, 3 Nov 1868.

William McIntosh was shot and killed at Vancil's Landing by Alfred Lence 3 Nov 1868. (See also 21 Nov 1868.)

A brother of William McIntosh was shot 8 Oct 1868, and died several days ago.

Mrs. C.G. Flaugh died 5 Nov 1868.

Mrs. Nancy Walls, aged 67 years, 1 month, died 15 Nov 1868.

 

28 Nov 1868:

Mr. L. Talbot died of disease of the heart Tuesday morning last (24 Nov 1868).

 

5 Dec 1868:

S.B. Halliday, of Cairo, Alexander County, died 31 Nov 1868.

 

26 Dec 1868:

Daniel Linch died 1 Dec 1868.

Capt. Buck Franklin was murdered at Renoldsburg, Johnson County, 19 Dec 1868.

Murderer of Capt. Franklin, from Texas, was hanged by a mob at Mt. Pleasant 19 Dec 1868.

 

9 Jan 1869:

Nathan Dresser died 29 Dec 1868. He was born in Connecticut.

A girl named Bryon, aged 14 years, of Topping District, drowned last Thursday (7 Jan 1869).

 

23 Jan 1869:

P.F. Corder was shot in Marion, Williamson County, by Sam Cover last Saturday (16 Jan 1869).

 

13 Feb 1869:

Leonard Knup, aged 77 years, died two miles southeast of Anna last Monday (8 Feb 1869).

 

20 Feb 1869:

Col. Frank M. Davidson died.

Gen. Murray McConnel, aged about 75 years, was killed by Mr. Robinson at Jacksonville 9 Feb 1869.

Susan Frick, aged 56 years, died two miles south of Jonesboro last Monday (8 Mar 1869).

 

20 Mar 1869:

Henry Roorback died at Cairo, Alexander County, last Sunday (14 Mar 1869).

Jane Phillips, wife of Jeremiah Phillips, died at Douglas, St. Clair County, 7 Mar 1869. She was born 23

Feb 1797, in Kentucky.

 

17 Apr 1869:

G.W Hardey, aged 29 years, died at Dongola 12 Apr 1869. He was born in Manchester, N.H.

Samuel Fredric Tismer, son of William and M.J. Tismer, aged 2 years, 2 months, 15 days, died at

Jonesboro of typhoid fever 12 Apr 1869.

 

1 May 1869:
Joseph Deonimerinoth was murdered by Abram Misenhimer at Dongola Monday night (27 Apr 1869).

Sam M. Eaton, of Hinkleyville, Ky., was killed by Officer Cunningham at Cairo, Alexander County, 10 Jun 1869.

Mike Berry was killed at Cairo, Alexander County by Sam Eaton 10 Jun 1869.

 

10 Jul 1869:

Mrs. Nancy J. Coleman, aged 24 years, died of hydrothorax Thursday evening (8 Jul 1869).

 

17 Jul 1869:

Miss Harriet Robinson/ Roberson, aged 45 years, died at Forest Grove, Ore., 4 Jul 1869. (See also 25 Sep 1869, issue.)

Lewis Williams, aged 36 years, died at Anna 10 Jul 1869.

 

24 Jul 1869:

Maria Milner Thompson, consort of Col. J. Thompson,  died of chronic inflammation of the liver near

Makanda 13 Jul 1869. She was born 30 Jul 1815, in Guernsey Co., Ohio.

 

14 Aug 1869:

Infant daughter of John Clay, died of cholera Wednesday (11 Aug 1869).

Michael Warren Hunsaker, son of Mrs. J.P. McLain, aged 14 years, 9 month, 24 days, died 6 Aug 1869.

 

21 Aug 1869:

Commodore Joseph S. Jarvis, of Geneva died 12 Aug 1869. He was born 31 May 1795.

William "Buck" Dupass was murdered by Brandon alias Whiteside of Grand Tower, Jackson County,

Saturday night (14 Aug 1869)

Mrs. Edward Ryan, aged 35 years, died last Saturday (21 Aug 1869).

Frank Hamilton was murdered at Six Mile Prairie by Lafayette Deason and John Martin 24 Dec 1867.

Child of Elder Wright, of Vienna, Johnson County, died.

Jennie Griffen, daughter of George and Maria Griffen, aged 11 years, 6 months, died of   brain fever 3  Sep 1869.

Ludwic Pullian, aged about 60 years, committed suicide in Anna.

Lucinda Ellen Gregory, wife of James Gregory and daughter of Mrs. Amos J. Anderson, aged 20 years,

died 14 Sep 1869.

Francis Weinberger, of Cobden, aged about 15 years, died 18 Sep 1869.

Jeremiah Johnson, aged about 35 years, died of typhoid fever at Cobden 27 Sep 1869.

Matilda Jane Clutts, daughter of Jacob Clutts, aged 24 years, 10 months, died near Cobden.

India Albright, consort of the Rev. Isaac N. Albright, aged 54 years, died at Jonesboro 12 Oct 1869.

Alison Cover, aged 49 years, died at Jonesboro last Saturday (6 Nov 1869).

Mrs. James Milligan, sister of M. Hunsaker, was buried Wednesday at Cobden.

Charles A. Freeland, son of S.H. Freeland of Carbondale, Jackson County, was killed in train accident

Saturday night (20 Nov 1869).

Willie Kroh, son of Rev. Philip Kroh, aged 10 years, died at Anna last Friday (17 Dec 1869).
